“I know you’re in my neighborhood but what are you doing for my community?”
We donate nearly $1 million to support education and neighborhood development
every year. In fact, we work every year to raise money for Share
the Warmth,
our way of directly touching families in need who might need a little extra
help paying their bills.
Beyond the dollars, employees of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas volunteer
their time to help residents of our communities save on their energy bills.
Last year, employees spent more than 5,000 hours of their personal time volunteering
in various community programs. One special program is Team
H.E.A.T.
We also cooperate with the City of Chicago to participate in heating fairs
every fall to ensure that our low-income residents have the information they
need to keep their bills low and get financial
assistance if they need it.
“Who does Team H.E.A.T. help?”
Team H.E.A.T. has been in existence for three years! Team H.E.A.T. helps low
and fixed income residents lower their energy costs by weather-proofing their
homes. Volunteers install weather stripping, put plastic over windows and caulk
around windows and doors. The volunteers are good neighbors and big-hearted
people who want to make a difference in our communities by helping people stay
warm. Oh yes. We also offer weatherproofing kits and information about energy
conservation and financial assistance to those who qualify.
