“How can a gas company say it’s in
the delivery business?”
Surprise! Many people don't know this...but we don't make gas. We purchase gas for our customers from producers at the best possible price we can. However, you should know that when gas prices go up or down, you pay the same price we do for this valuable resource.
We simply deliver gas. We bring the gas that cooks your food, heats your water and makes your life a lot more comfortable on cold winter nights.
If you look closely at your bill, you'll see that the cost of gas and taxes make up about 80% of it. We simply pass these costs on to you with no additional charges.
So, you might say we're in the transportation business...transporting gas
across our 6,000 miles of pipeline in the city and northern
suburbs from suppliers around the country in order to deliver it to the homes
of the 1 million customers of the Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. It's a job
we take very seriously because we know how much you depend on us to keep
you warm and keep you safe.
“I know you take care of the gas pipes, but what else do you do?”
